Hour of (No) Power

Here at Rejuvenation, we’re planning for Earth Hour. (Yep, your heard that right: Earth Hour. Earth Day is in April, and we’ll be celebrating that, too.) For one hour on March 31st, from 8:30 p.m.to 9:30 p.m., this lighting company is turning off our lights to support better environmental stewardship.

Earth Hour began in Sydney, Australia, in 2007, as a statement against the biggest contributor to global warming: coal-fired electricity. Since then, the event has grown larger every year. Here’s how the organization describes it:

Hundreds of millions of people, businesses and governments around the world unite each year to support the largest environmental event in history – Earth Hour.

More than 5,200 cities and towns in 135 countries worldwide switched off their lights for Earth Hour 2011 alone, sending a powerful message for action on climate change. It also ushered in a new era with members going Beyond the Hour to commit to lasting action for the planet. Without a doubt, it’s shown how great things can be achieved when people come together for a common cause.

We invite you to join us in the dark. Spend the time with family and friends, enjoying the simple pleasures of candlelight and conversation. If you like, tell us how it went and if you have plans to go Beyond the Hour.

Sorry, don’t buy into the GW theory but I do like your products (I have many of them throughtout the house). Will probably leave my lights on an exra hour to spur the economic growth of electrical generation but good luck to you and your cause.-Doug

Earth Hour……….One of the most ridiculous observances I’ve come across! And your explanation of how this all started in Australia and global warming and coal-fired power plants is a joke. You obviously have bought into the whole global warming farce even though it has been debunked by most of the recognized authorities on historic weather patterns and the effects of the ocean currents/temperatures. Have you already forgotten about the exposed emails between the global-warming alarmists outlining how they were manipulating data, records, research and observances in order to justify more research grants($$$)
from various governments and institutions? Pathetic……….

You guys have such beautiful and traditional fixtures. Please please please do not fall for this nonsense! Technology enlightens the world – literally! Electricity generation and distribution has been the prime mover for technological innovation for over a century now. It has brought untold benefits of health, productivity, comfort, knowledge, and happiness to billions of people around the globe. Since the times of the ancients, light in the form of a lamp has symbolized knowledge, beauty, and truth while its opposite, darkness, has stoos for ignorance, brutality, and falsehood. Do not choose the darkness but rather, as in Harvard’s motto, seek lux et veritas – light and truth!
    Peace.

This is the most stupid thing I’ve heard of. Sorry folks, just threw out your catalog. The whole GW thing is horse pucky!Instead of being politically correct, how about you focus on expanding your excellent product line. I note that you sell Earth hurting light bulbs–just silliness! And you just lost a great customer!

Great event! Thanks for passing the word about it and glad you are participating. As Rejuvination goes through growing pains I am glad to see you have not forgotten your Portland roots and values. Don’t listen to the nonsense from the Global Warming naysayers.
