A couple of additional sources: many city, county and state governments' tax assessor offices have property information and plat maps available online through their web sites. Most likely you can get year-built information, and as a fun aside understand how your lot is laid out. While you're at the library, look for old city directories. In my granny's attic is one from my town dated 1930 and went house-by-house down every street, listing name, occupation and such of the occupants at the time. If appropriate that may lead to finding living relatives who might have photos from the era.
