I’ll give you three guesses…

What do we have here?
That’s the question everyone has asked when they first encounter this strange little silver hand.
Any guesses ideas?

What is it?

Don’t worry if you don’t know… I’ll post the answer later.

    Hey there Jill.

Believe it or not, the above item is a linen straightener used to work wrinkles and creases out of table cloths. Because as we all know, it’s very important to have an unblemished, crisp table cloth.

Shocked! I really thought it was a crumb catcher… my grandmother used to use one just like it to get crumbs off of the tablecloth between dinner and dessert!

Huh. You learn something new every day! I would have guessed crumb catcher too. Thanks for satisfying my curiousity!

When I first saw it, I thought “crumb catcher” too.

I think it might be one of those things where over the years it got repurposed.

Sure does get a super crisp line on linens, though.
